ISA will place a call for session proposals for the IV ISA Forum  Sociology (July 14-18  2020) to be held in Porto Alegre, Brazil.


The Forum  main theme on "Challenges of the 21st Century: Democracy, Environment, Inequalities, Intersectionality.”

The submission system will open from 4 February and deadline is 15 of March 2019.

Session proposals should relate either to the theme of the Forum and/or to the main themes and topics framing the regular activities of RC23 Sociology of Science and Technology such as (but not limited to):

  • Academic Career, Research Networks and Professional Associations
  • Feminist and post-colonial approaches to STS
  • The national organization of science and technology
  • Science and Technology policy
  • The sociology of scientific and technological research and innovation
  • The social imaginaries of modern science and technology
  • Stratification in science and technology
  • The sociology of a particular science (ecology, physics, etc.)
  • The sociology of a particular technology (robotics, biotechnology, nanotechnology, social media or other communications technologies, reproductive technologies, surveillance technologies, etc.)
  • The sociology of a particular scientific or technological concept (Anthropocene, cyborg, biodiversity, etc.)
  • Contested scientific and technological spaces
  • Democratic participation in science and technology
  • Science and technology in a post-truth era
  • Citizen science and technology
  • The regulation of science and technology

In addition to regular Sessions, RC23 is open to session proposals having a format of Round-table Sessions, Poster Sessions, Invited Sessions, Author meets their critics and Joint Sessions or other less traditional formats that will facilitate the effective inclusion of a larger number of participants (for more information about these formats please visit:

Please note that active participation in RC23 activities (e.g. Session Chairs, Paper Presenter and Discussants) is contingent on RC23 Membership. In cases in which a paper is coauthored, at least one coauthor must be a RC23 Member. The RC23 membership dues are $20 for four years.
